SMAR4 Absolute Ultra-Flat Magnetic Encoder

The SMAR4 is an absolute ultra-flat magnetic encoder designed for robotics, servo motors, drones, camera systems, and other space-constrained motion-control applications. Their compact, bearingless design eliminates mechanical wear, reduces maintenance, and delivers reliable, high-precision position feedback in demanding environments. The open PCB sensing head measures less than 23 mm, making integration easy even in the smallest assemblies.

The encoders support both BiSS-C and SSI interfaces for fast, reliable communication with motion controllers and servo drives. They deliver absolute position feedback with up to 19-bit resolution (524,288 counts per revolution) and typical ±0.05° accuracy. In addition, their contactless magnetic sensing technology ensures stable performance throughout the encoder’s service life.

Built for high-speed applications, the SMAR4 Series supports rotational speeds up to 12,000 RPM (electrical) and 32,000 RPM (mechanical). It also allows ±0.5 mm radial and tangential misalignment, simplifying installation and reducing alignment time. The encoder operates with a 0.4–0.6 mm sensing gap, giving engineers greater design flexibility without compromising measurement accuracy.

The lightweight sensor weighs less than 15 g and operates over the temperature range –25°C to +100°C. The magnetic ring withstands temperatures up to +200°C and features IP67 protection, while the sensor is available as an open PCB for direct OEM integration. These features make the SMAR4 Series an excellent choice for robotic joints, cobots, direct-drive torque motors, brushless motors, UAVs, gimbals, medical devices, laboratory equipment, and high-performance OEM systems where space, weight, and precision matter most.
