The SMA5 is a contactless absolute linear encoder designed for general industrial automation, linear positioning, and motion control applications. It delivers reliable absolute position feedback with resolution down to 5 µm. As a result, it improves positioning accuracy while eliminating the need for homing after power loss. Its contactless magnetic sensing technology eliminates mechanical wear, reduces maintenance, and ensures dependable long-term performance.
The encoder communicates through a high-speed SSI interface, making integration with PLCs, CNC machines, servo systems, and industrial controllers simple and reliable. It supports measuring lengths up to 5.1 m, giving machine builders a flexible solution for medium- and long-travel applications. In addition, users can select resolutions from 100 µm to 5 µm to match their performance requirements.
The SMA5 delivers sensor accuracy up to ±20 µm with ±1 increment repeatability. It refreshes position data every 250 µs for stable, accurate control. Large mounting tolerances and a 0.1 to 1.0 mm sensing gap simplify installation and reduce alignment time. An integrated diagnostic LED provides instant feedback during setup, while an optional error bit output helps monitor system performance.
A rugged IP67-rated aluminum housing protects the encoder from dust, water, oil, and other industrial contaminants. It also withstands 250 g shock, 10 g vibration, and temperatures from –25°C to +85°C. Therefore, the SMA5 performs reliably in demanding factory environments.
